Importance of Rehabilitation Exercises After Limb Immobilization
Immobilization of a limb due to pain or dressings often leads to a reduction in muscle strength and flexibility over time. Once the pain subsides or the dressing is removed, patients commonly face difficulties in performing movements as fully as they did before the condition.
Fortunately, this process is reversible through dedicated rehabilitation exercises. To restore muscle flexibility, it is important to perform movements to the fullest extent allowed by the joints. When resistance is felt at a certain point, the limb should be held in that position briefly. Stiff muscles can be compared to washed clothes — when gently stretched, they gradually regain elasticity.
The human body conserves energy and does not maintain organs at maximum efficiency when they are not in use. Therefore, rebuilding muscle strength requires regular exercise. For optimal effectiveness, exercising with weights is recommended. It is most convenient to use weights of varying heaviness that feel comfortable to the touch. Such weights not only accelerate the rehabilitation process but can also be used successfully for recreational exercise.
